The complete genome of the hyperthermophilic bacterium Aquifex aeolicus

Article Abstract:

It has been possible to undertake the complete genome sequencing of 1,551,335 base pairs of Aquifex aeolicus, one of the most thermophilic bacteria known. Researchers classified 1,512 open-reading frames into one of three categories: identified, hypothetical and unknown. Sequence redundancy for the whole excercise was calculated at 4.83, with one extrachromasomal element being identified. The placing of the Aquifex lineage as one of the earliest divergences in the eubacterial tree could provide information about the ancestral eubacterial phenotype.

Human b-tryptase is a ring-like tetramer with active sites facing a central pore

Article Abstract:

The mast-cell specific serine proteinase enzyme Human beta tryptase induces an allergic reaction via four active sites on the heparin-stabilized tetramer structure. Human beta tryptase can not be deactivated by endogenous proteinase inhibitors. Its tetrametic structure can be used in monofunctional and bifunctional tryptase inhibitor research.
