Dynamic universe

Article Abstract:

Fritz Zwicky (1898-1973), a Swiss physicist trained as an X-ray crystallographer used his 18-inch Schmidt camera to see rare, violent and short-lived events in the Universe. Through his camera he discovered 20 supernovae that allow him to classify them into several types and infer their different modes of origin and dark matter that allowed him to study the motions of individual galaxies in rich clusters of galaxies.
