The effect of complete versus incomplete information on odour discrimination in a parasitic wasp

Article Abstract:

The influence of prior information on odor discrimination in the parasitic wasp Leptopilina heterotoma was investigated by identifying the preference of female wasps after they are given a rewarding or both rewarding and non-rewarding experiences on various food substrates. Results reveal that odor discrimination is a behavioral decision and is significantly influenced with exposure to previous information.

Absence of odour learning in the stemborer parasitoid Cotesia flavipes

Article Abstract:

The reproductive success of parasitoids is linked to successful host location and it is thought that parasitoids have evolved to use visual and olfactory clues to improve the probability of finding suitable hosts. A preference experiment with the parasitic stemborer wasp Cotesia flavipes shows no evidence of olfactory learning in its foraging for plant/hosts.
