The effect of conspecific density on female reproduction in an egg-carrying bug

Article Abstract:

The effect of conspecific density on female egg laying is tested in two experiments, where males, females or both accompanied an egg-laying focal female in two sizes of enclosures for 8 days. It is shown that conspecifics are an important source for female golden egg bugs, Phyllomorpha laciniata, in terms of egg laying and the survival of the egg might be affected by the female's chances of laying eggs on conspecifics.

Female zebra finches prefer symmetrically banded males, but only during interactive mate choice tests

Article Abstract:

A new study investigates the mating preference of female zebra finches and compares female choice when social interaction is possible and not possible. The study shows female zebra finches prefer males wearing symmetrical band combinations rather than asymmetrical bands, but only when males could interact with the choosing female. Females presented with truly unresponsive males showed no preference.

Male choice for current female fecundity in a polyandrous egg-carrying bug

Article Abstract:

Research describing male mate choice in the egg carrying golden egg bug, Phyllomorpha laciniata, is presented. It is shown that males selected females according to their current fecundity.
