The heating of gas in a galaxy cluster by X-ray cavities and large-scale shock fronts

Article Abstract:

A lot of the baryons in galaxy clusters are present among the galaxies in the hot, intense gas and this gas in its heart must cool and accumulate upon huge galaxies that are in the centre at the rate of 10 to 1000 solar masses every year. The discovery of giant cavities and shock fronts in a distant cluster caused by an interaction between a radio source and the hot gas surrounding it is reported.

A high abundance of massive galaxies 3-6 billion years after the Big Bang

Article Abstract:

A report on the results of a spectroscopic redshift survey that probes the most massive and quiescent galaxies back to an era only 3Gyr after the Big Bang is provided. Findings show that at least two-thirds of massive galaxies have appeared since this era but the fact that a significant fraction of them were already in place in the early Universe is also discussed.

Reconstructing galaxy histories from globular clusters

Article Abstract:

An attempt to construct a complete chronology of galaxy evolution based on analysis of distinct subpopulations of globular cluster systems of galaxies is pointed. Detailed spectroscopic and photometric observation would reveal the age of globular cluster.
