Structure and function of the histone chaperone CIA/ASF1 complexed with histones H3 and H4

Article Abstract:

The crystal structures of CCG1-interacting factor A (CIA)-1 in complex with histones H3 and H4 is reported. The histone H3-H4 tetramer-disrupting activity of CIA/ASF1 and the crystal structure of the CIA/ASF1-histone-H3-H4 dimer complex have provided insights into mechanisms of both nucleosome assembly/dissembly and nucleosome semi-conservative replication.

[AB.sub.5] subtilase cytotoxin inactivates the endoplasmic reticulum chaperone BiP

Article Abstract:

The extreme cytotoxicity of subtilase cytotoxin for eukaryotic cell is due to a specific single-site cleavage of the essential endoplasmic reticulum chaperone BiP/GRP78. It is demonstrated that the BiP is a master regulator of endoplasmic reticulum function and its cleavage by subtilase cytotoxin represents an unknown trigger for cell death.
