The importance of local familiarity and search for age- and sex-biased philopatry in the collared flycatcher

Article Abstract:

The highest degree of philopatry in the migratory collared flycatcher, Ficedula albicollis, is found in increasing benefits of prior local experience with age. The age and sex-biased philopatry in the birds is caused by age and sex differences in the balance between the benefits of using prior local experience and cost in time of finding the way home. The male flycatcher has the highest average search cost. The old males are more quick than the old females in their responses.

When to use public information for breeding habitat selection? The role of environmental predictability and density dependence

Article Abstract:

The factors like environmental predictability and interactions between individuals that affect the performance of individuals using patch reproductive success for breeding habitat is investigated. The better understanding of breeding habitat selection behaviors for evolutionary and conservation biology is highlighted.

Prospecting in the collared flycatcher: gathering public information for future breeding habitat selection?

Article Abstract:

Data on prospecting behavior in the collared flycatcher, Ficedula albicollis, a small hole-nesting passerine bird is collected. This data was collected to investigate whether prospectors could gather information on their conspecifics' reproductive success, that is, 'public information'.
