The long and winding road: documentary makers can get as close to the war zones of disease as doctors and researchers-perhaps even closer. Julie Clayton and Declan Butler talk to Kevin Hull about his experiences

Article Abstract:

Award winning film-maker, Kevin Hull with more than 20 documentaries and television series like The War Machine feels that the focus of his film, Fever Road, shifted towards the issue regarding the failure of the malaria control initiatives. Kevin Hull's film deals with issues like the personal experiences of the African villagers, the efforts of the scientists to fight against malaria and the political and economic issues that are responsible for the international communities response towards it.

The silent treatment

Article Abstract:

The hype surrounding RNA interference (RNAi) 'gene silencing' technology has both academic labs and biotech companies in its hold. The activity of the RNA-induced silencing complex is directed by the RNA, which is degraded, thus effectively 'silencing' the gene from which it was transcribed.
