The neural basis of the central executive system of working memory

Article Abstract:

A study shows that the prefrontal cortex controls human working memory. A central executive system controls attention and information flow to and from verbal and spatial short-term memory buffers. The study uses functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) for cerebral activation measurement. Observations are made while performing two different tasks. Single tasks and dual task conditions are compared. Results of the study are given.

Persistence of visual memory for scenes

Article Abstract:

It has been established that cumulative memory build-up allows the same number of objects to be remembered, regardless of whether these are seen in a series of short, separate presentations spread over several minutes or as one single presentation of the same total time. The build-up of visual memory over time was found to be much better than has been widely believed.
