The shape of things to come

Article Abstract:

Billions of malformed proteins are churned out through the night in a secure lab in Texas and these mass produced distorted molecules are at the heart of research into a family of diseases that destroy the brain. The diseases linked to infectious prions are called transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, or TSEs because of the spongy appearance they give the brain and most TSEs are species-specific.
