The structure of an intermediate in class II MHC maturation: CLIP bound to HLA-DR3

Article Abstract:

The class II associated invariant chain peptide (CLIP) fragment binds to DR3 in a manner similar to that in which antigenic peptides couple to class II histocompatibility glycoproteins. The complex between HLA-DR3 and CLIP, obtained from a human cell line was analyzed using X-ray crystallography. The structure appears to be that of a substrate for the DM exchanger. The binding between DR3 and CLIP indicates that CLIP motif of Ii stabilizes class II molecules. The CLIP attached to DR3 has a half life of 4 hours.

Atomic structure of a human MHC molecule presenting an influenza virus peptide

Article Abstract:

The atomic arrangement of the human class I histocompatibility glycoprotein HLA-Aw68 has been mapped out at 2.8 angstroms. This glycoprotein, part of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) of HLA peptides, plays a key role in activating cytotoxic T lymphocytes to destroy invading influenza viruses. HLA-Aw68's organization features an abundance of peptide binding sites at its two end regions. These binding sites enable the MHC molecule to trigger the immune response by linking with the T-cell receptors.

Structure of an unliganded simian immunodeficiency virus gp120 core

Article Abstract:

The crystal structure, at Angstrom resolution, of a fully glycosylated simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) gp120 core, in a conformation representing its prefusion state, before interaction with receptor CD4 is reported. The binding site for a compound that inhibits viral entry is identified.
