Too costly software?

Article Abstract:

Copying of software is considered a crime in many places since such piracy of copyrighted material deprives the owner of just rewards. However, software developers are partly to blame for the rampant occurance of software piracy. These software developers tend to make their products as sophisticated as possible and demand onerous prices for these. Interested software buyers who need just a specific part of a particular software, thus, have to purchase the entire package. Patenting software instead of copyrighting it is a possible solution to the problem.

Software testing blamed for Ariane failure

Article Abstract:

Insufficient verification of computer-software has been identified as the prime reason for the explosion of the Ariane-5 satellite launcher during its maiden flight on Jun. 4, 1996. The European Space Agency's laxity towards upgrading flight control and guidance systems on board the launcher will slow down the Cluster mission and increase the cost of the program. The inquiry board has called for more transparency, and a reappraisal of the flight software and testing procedures through external participation.
