Article Abstract:

Human dimensions should be recognized as important component of conservation biology and integrated into the education of conservation biologists. The public often plays a crucial role in determining success or failure of conservation programs, and therefore conservation biologists should be trained in areas such as communication, policy-making processes, and the interaction of social and ecological systems.

Article Abstract:

Disciplinary boundaries hamper the ability of academia to respond to problems of biodiversity and conservation, problems which transcend traditional academic disciplines. Recommended steps include an educational approach that is more problem-oriented, creation of multidisciplinary programs and a change in systems of faculty evaluation and reward to recognize activities other than publishing.
