US court backs authors infight over article reproduction rights

Article Abstract:

The UnCover Co of Colorado, owned by London-based Dialog Corporation, retrieves and copies articles from journals and charges a fee for their distribution. Five freelance authors are suing the company, and have won a federal court ruling, whereby the company must not distribute copies of an article without a signed copyright release. The company believes that the ruling places further restrictions on the dissemination of scholarly works, and that a copyright fee is paid to publishers.
