Uncertain aims delay start of Internet research effort

Article Abstract:

The launch of President Bill Clinton's Next Generation Internet research initiative is being delayed by lack of funding commitment. The initiative, which needs annual funds of $100 million, will research into technology for the Internet of the future, and establish the US as the technology leader. Clinton sought funding from a range of agencies but Congressional committees have been slow to devote funds due to uncertainties about the nature and purpose of the initiative. Experts believe that support will be forthcoming, but the slow start is unfortunate for this fast-moving technology.

Speciation by host switch in brood parasitic indigobirds

Article Abstract:

Results indicate that though all indigobird species are genetically similar, they exhibit differences at the mitochondrial haplotype and nuclear allele frequencies, suggesting sympatric speciation. Data show that host switches lead to speciation in indigobirds as revealed by their imprints left on their hosts.
