Vigilance in white-faced capuchins, Cebus capucinus, in Costa Rica

Article Abstract:

A study of vigilance in four groups of white-faced capuchins, Cebus capucinus, in Costa Rica reveals that males are more vigilant than females, with the vigilant period remaining independent of group size but varying inversely with the number of males. In both sexes, the level of vigilance varies directly with the absence of neighbors. Males are more vigilant toward other group males than toward predators or other group members.

Male dispersal patterns in white-faced capuchins, Cebus capucinus. Part 1: patterns and causes of natal emigration

Article Abstract:

The proximate causes of natal emigration in white-faced capuchins and the benefits of the observed dispersal pattern are described. The conclusion indicates that their dispersal occurs primarily in response to an attraction to extragroup males or dispersing groupmates.

Male dispersal patterns in white-faced capuchins, Cebus capucinus. Part 1: patterns and causes of secondary dispersal

Article Abstract:

The patterns and causation of male secondary dispersal in white-faced capuchins are described. Males of all age classes display very high levels of parallel dispersal that serves to offset the high costs of dispersal.
