Autocrine T-cell suicide mediated by APO-1(Fas/CD95)

Article Abstract:

Examination of various human T-cells for the involvement APO-1 in apoptosis induced by T-cell receptors (TCR) indicates that suppression of anti APO-1 antibody fragments and soluble APO-1 receptor decoys significantly inhibits apoptosis in all cases. In peripheral activated T cells, autocrine suicide mediated by APO-1 ligand participates in the apoptosis induced by TCR. A suggested mechanism accounts for the T-cell deletion-induced suppression of the peripheral tolerance and immune response.

Viral FLICE-inhibitory proteins (FLIPs) prevent apoptosis induced by death receptors

Article Abstract:

Viruses use several different strategies to evade detection and eradication by the host's immune system. Apoptosis, or cell death, is used by the immune system to eliminate possible attack, but some viruses carry genes giving them the ability to interfere with the host's apoptotic response. A new family of viral inhibitors, termed viral FLICE-inhibitory proteins, and present in some gamma-herpesviruses, that intercept apoptosis signalled through death receptors is described.
