West Nile virus exposure in black bears of northeastern Wisconsin

Article Abstract:

Plaque-reduction neutralization test was used to study the presence of West Nile virus (WNV) infection in black bears in northeastern Wisconsin. While pathologic effects of WNV infection were not observed in any of the black bears, 17.6 percent bears found infected in Wisconsin between 2003 and 2005 while infection rates in black bears in Virginia was 6 percent and 22 percent in European brown bears.

Identifying suitable sites for Florida panther reintroduction

Article Abstract:

Prospective sites were identified for Florida panther reintroduction within the historic range based on quantitative landscape assessments. Anthropogenic factors heavily influenced both the landscape and the expert assisted models and sensitivity analyses indicated that variability among key model parameters did not affect the high ranking of those sites.

Do black bears respond to military weapons training?
