Where does Russia head now?

Article Abstract:

Russian Pres Boris Yeltsin may have gained the confidence vote in a referendum held in Apr 1993 but this does not mean a better working relationship with the Russian Congress. Although Russian politics already has some semblance of democracy, the legislative body is one that dates back to Mikhail Gorbachev's rule when the representatives were not elected at large. Yeltsin could convene a commission tasked with redefining the Russian constitution to lessen the powers of a recalcitrant Congress. Through this tumult, Yeltsin must also consider the fate of Russian researchers.

Why people gesture when they speak

Article Abstract:

It is assumed that gesturing during conversation is learned behaviour, but it has been shown that congenitally blind speakers use gestures despite the lack of visual models. Speakers may gesture because they know that gestures can convey useful information, and this was tested. It is concluded that gesture does not depend on a model or an observer and is thus an integral part of the speaking process.
