Why drinking green tea could prevent cancer

Article Abstract:

EGCG, a component of green tea, has been shown to bind to urokinase (uPA), a proteolytic enzyme which invades cells and forms metastases. Having bound with uPA, EGCG blocks His 57 and Ser 195 of the uPA catalytic triad and extends towards Arg 35 from a positively charged loop of uPA. In this way, it inhibits the ability of uPA to recognize its substrates and hamper enzyme activity. This finding indicates that drinking green tea could play a role in preventing cancers in humans.

Preventing cancer

Article Abstract:

More campaigns and support are required to tackle obesity and physical activity as a means of cancer prevention. Governments should ensure that eating the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables a day is a realistic aim for everyone and finding truce between environment and human physiology would go a long way in reducing the burden of diseases.

The sounds of silence

Article Abstract:

Cancer research is increasingly focusing on prevention, drawing on work in fields including risk assessment, genetics, and vaccine development. This shift will mean less publicity since the measure of success will be the absence of cancer rather than spectacular cures.
