X-ray holography with atomic resolution

Article Abstract:

An X-ray hologram with derived atomic image was done on strontium ions in the cubic perovskite SrTiO3. A single crystal of the perovskite was exposed toX-rays. The arrangement of the Sr atoms was described as a cubic lattice. The atoms in the three atomic planes were also found to vary in size and shape. This was attributed to the flat specimen used and the geometry of the crystal which was almost parallel to the plane. The uniformity of the resolution was believed to improve with the use of a tiny globular sample and by measuring the hologram on the full sphere.

Femtosecond time-delay X-ray holography

Article Abstract:

A simple holographic measurement scheme is used for monitoring the X-ray-induced explosion of microscopic objects. The results have shown that X-ray flash imaging can be used for achieving high resolution, beyond radiation damage limits for biological samples.
