The photobehaviour of Daphnia spp. as a model to explain diel vertical migration zooplankton
Article Abstract:
Several pelagic animal species in fresh water and the marine environment undertake diel vertical migrations (DVMs). The mechanistic aspects of migration behaviour are considered, with a focus on Daphnia spp. An analysis of the phototactic reaction mechanism in Daphnia spp. has resulted in a model of photobehaviour explaining DVM, and it is likely that marine calanoid copepods exhibit comparable photobehaviour to Daphnia spp.
