Genealogy of New Kingdom pharaohs and queens
Article Abstract:
Analysis of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) from tissue samples offers the strongest possibility for accurately identifying royal mummies from the New Kingdom (1570-1070 B.C.) of ancient Egypt. Intermarriage was common between fathers and daughters and between siblings, complicating genetic information. Often priests from one dynasty incorrectly identified mummies from another. DNA analysis should untangle dozens of genetic relationships in bodies recently-rediscovered in Cairo's University Faculty of Medicine.
