Sanctuary of the gods: scholars unearth exquisite evidence of the cults that flourished at the sacred Macedonian city of Dion
Article Abstract:
Archaeological evidence has revealed the importance of the ancient Macedonian city of Dion as a sacred center, probably due to its location near Mount Olympus. Shrines to Demeter, Asklepios, Isis and other deities have been identified. Many sculptures have also been found in excavations that have been conducted at Dion since 1970, currently directed by archaeology professor Dimitris Pandermalis. One significant find was the remains of a pipe organ or 'hydraulis' from the first century BC. The worship of Greek gods at Dion suggests the close ties between Macedonia and ancient Greece.

'Laozi' debate
Article Abstract:
Scholars continue to debate the authorship of the oldest known Daoist text, the 'Laozi' or 'Daoedejing.' Discovered in a 4th-century B.C. tomb, the manuscript bundles are at least 150 years older than any previous known version. Confucianists and Daoists have studied these texts for millennia, and they are the most-translated of all sacred texts after the Christian bible. Some scholars feel this manuscript was composed by more than one author.
