Best store
Article Abstract:
IKEA Svenska AB hired Walker Group/CNI to design a store that would allow it to capture the high-rent market in New York City's Manhattan district. Instead of its typical 200,000-sq.-ft. store, IKEA asked Walker Group to design its store around a 3,500-sq.-ft., two-level angular space along Manhattan's upscale shopping corridor. Walker Group came up with a unique concept it calls a 'marketing outpost' in response to IKEA's request. IKEA expressed satisfaction with the design and is planning to adopt it in other cities where a full-size store is not feasible.

Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette: New York City; Mancini-Duffy
Article Abstract:
New York design firm Mancini-Duffy designed the new Manhattan headquarters of investment banking and securities trading firm Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. The designers opted to retain two features of their client's old offices: the Federal-style carpeting on the executive floor and reception areas and faux stone-painted elevator lobbies. The workspaces were also designed to highlight function with period-inspired colors and accents.
