Client: Control Centres Belgium

Article Abstract:

Israeli development company Control Centres Belgium chose American architect Michael Graves for its Astrid Hotel project because his design proposal reflected the character of Antwerp architecture. The design also incorporated design elements of its surrounding community and of Flemish art. However, Graves has to contend with differences in design concepts and practices between Americans and Europeans such as the use of materials, sense of space and the architect's involvement in a construction project. Despite these, the joint efforts between Graves and Belgian firms are getting along well.
