Several kitchens featuring colonial, modern as well as 'arts and crafts' designs are presented. The kitchens may be found in New York's Bull House, the Rogers Memorial Library Showhouse in Southampton, NY, Bennet Bean's residence in New Jersey and in the homes of Ann and Richard Hirst of Hampshire, IL.

Traditional appeal in Connecticut

Jane and Lew Davis capped their move from Manhattan, NY to Fairfield, CT, in 1985 with the purchase of a 1960s house built in the centerhall Colonial style. To complete the casual feel of the country home, the couple adorned the house with Amish rag rugs, French pieces and Chinese porcelain.

Pure and simple: the marks of Shaker design
Article Abstract:
The simplified ethics of the Shaker religion are reflected in the communities which they built in the 18th century. Their houses are symmetrical without any architectural flourishes, and are equipped with sturdy and spare furnishings.
