Clearing the air, biologically
Article Abstract:
Publicly owned treatment works have contributed to air quality management through the use of biological agents that degrade air discharges but, unknowingly, also contribute to smog formation. These air discharges are difficult to treat due to their large volume and their low concentration which do not provide enough heat for self-incineration. Thus, wastewater treatment plants have resorted to biological degradation using a biofilter, a technique wherein contaminants are dissolved in water and are subsequently degraded by fungi and bacteria.

Article Abstract:
Designers are being forced to reduce their fees to attract clients in an increasingly competitive environment. The result is a comprimise in quality of designs and rather than producing original material, designers are modifying existing work. Himmel/Bonner Architects, a design partnership, has resisted lowering its fees, however, but has increased the productivity of 15 people to the level of work formerly produced by 25.
