Using EVA at OutSource Inc

Article Abstract:

Accounting students are enjoined to participate in a competition that involves the concept of economic value added (EVA) and market value added (MVA). Those who wish to take part are required to come up with a report to be submitted to a computer service bureau discussing MVA and EVA, particularly how they are computed and how they perform compared to traditional measures of corporate financial performance. Participants are supposed to explain the pros and cons of EVA usage to appraise the performance of the firm on a continuous basis, and to evaluate the performance of individual managers. Entrants should compute EVA and MVA from the financial statements of the company for 1995 through the two methods described by Bennett Stewart in his book 'The Quest for Value'. A video presentation is expected from the participants.
