Transformation of diamond to graphite
Article Abstract:
Micro-Raman spectroscopy has been used to investigate what happens to diamond when it is exposed to high contact compression as a result of pressing a sharp diamond indenter against its surface. It was established that diamond at the point of indentation becomes disordered graphite. This finding seems to go against the widely recognized fact that graphite transforms into diamond under pressure. However, it is important to take account of the difference between compression and hydrostatic pressure. It is clear that the pressure limit for diamond can be reached by using non-hydrostatic contact loading.

Bivariate line-fitting methods for allometry
Article Abstract:
The essential features of line-fitting methods are described estimating the relationship between two variables. Line-fitting in allometry faces two sources of error and these have different implications for choice of line-fitting method but linear regression, major axis and standardized major axis are alternative methods that can be used when there is no measurement error.
