Chemosensory behaviour of Tetrahymena
Article Abstract:
Observations on Tetrahymena cells gliding on gelatine gels show both directed and random responses toward chemoattractants. The latter include proteins and peptides, most particularly the hydrophobic amino acids L-Phenylalanine, L-cysteine, L-histidine and L-leucine. When they communicate with the cell surface recognition site at the anterior pole, the organism migrates according to the direction of contact by the chemotactic factor.

A twinge of tax: Michigan
Article Abstract:
Michigan Governor John Engler's budget proposal includes a plan to reduce property taxes, compensated for by a 50% increase in sales tax. The increase would require a constitutional amendment, and the higher sales tax would benefit public schools.
