Cloning and characterization of a Rhizobium leguminosarum gene encoding a bacteriocin with similarities to RTX toxins
Article Abstract:
Experiments have been conducted to investigate how medium bacteriocins contribute to the prevalence of Rhizobium leguminosarum 248 in nodules. R. leguminosarum has been found to produce bacteriocins characterized as small, medium or large based on their assumed sizes and diffusion characteristics. Findings from a related 1979 study revealed the presence of larger bacteriocins in some strains that resemble defective phage particles. Findings of this study have revealed that trifolitoxin can be used to enhance the competitiveness of inoculant strains with a high degree of effectivity.

Acetoacetyl coenzyme A reductase and polyhydroxybutyrate synthesis in Rhizobium (Cicer) sp. strain CC 1192
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the biochemical controls that regulate the biosynthesis of poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) in Rhizobium (Cicer) sp. strain CC 1192. Results provide evidence indicating that CC 1192 cells retain the enzymic capacity to synthesize PHB when they differentiate from the free-living state to the bacteroid state. The presence of an NADPH-dependent acetoacetyl coenzyme A reductase was also demonstrated in extracts from free-living and bacteroid cells of CC 1192.

DNase activities of the extracellular, cell wall-associated, and cytoplasmic protein fractions of Frankia strain R43
Article Abstract:
Different protein fractions from the strain R43 of Frankia was screened for deoxyribonuclease activity. Exonuclease and endonuclease activities were found in both extracellular and cell-wall protein fractions. Intracellular proteins did not exhibit deoxyribonuclease activity. The extracellular fraction had the highest deoxyribonuclease activity. This fraction contains six proteins with deoxyribonuclease activity as detected by gel electrophoresis.
