Comparative karyology in Akodon (Rodentia, Sigmodontinae) from Southeastern Brazil

Article Abstract:

There is a wide distribution of the rodent species, genus Akodon, throughout South America. Five Akodon species were examined using karyotypic comparisons, and were found to share a major proportion of their chromosome complements. Comparisons with Bolomys lasirus, a related group, revealed the ancestral and derived karyotypic traits. Those with lower diploid chromosome numbers were found to be derived from species with higher diploid numbers, most by 11 fusions and 1 pericentric inversion.

Testing dispersal hypotheses in foraging green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) of Brazil

Article Abstract:

Dispersal hypotheses were tested with the help of sequencing green sea turtles feeding at Ubatuba and Almofala, Brazil at the mitochondrial control region and genotyping them at 7 microsatellite loci. Significant differentiation was revealed between Brazilian feeding grounds and most other Atlantic groups, whereas microsatellites uncovered similarities to some of the geographically closest populations.

Ant-mediated seed dispersal contributes to the local spatial pattern and genetic structure of Globba lancangensis (Zingiberaceae)

Article Abstract:

The extent of ant-mediated dispersal affecting the local spatial pattern and spatial genetic structure (SGS) in the population of Globba lancangensis is examined. Results reveal the ant-mediated dispersal to reduce seedling clustering degree and play a minor role in developing and maintaining the local SGS in G. lancangensis.
