'Condor' physiology

Article Abstract:

'The Condor,' which has been in publication for more than 96 years, has seen a considerable rise in physiological articles. The focus, which was on the description of the observation of birds and animals, has shifted to aspects of community ecology and molecular systematics. The contributions by the graduates from the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology and the University of Los Angeles are responsible for the rise in publications in physiology. The journal also presents articles on energy costs of some processes such as those based on respirometry, heat exchange and body composition.

Physiology of poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) production by Alcaligenes eutrophus growing in continuous culture

Article Abstract:

The poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) production by continuous cultures of a glucose-utilizing mutant of Alcaligenes eutrophus was investigated to identify and quantify the physiological properties that determine the rate of the PHB production. Results reveal that A. eutrophus is unable to regulate the rate at which it takes up excess carbon substrate to meet its requirement for growth.

Researchers have identified the first known bitter taste receptor, T2R. T2R colocalizes with the G protein subunit gustducin, which has been linked to the signal transduction of sweet and bitter tastes.
