Blood groups and red cell acid phosphatase types in a Mixteca population resident in Mexico City
Article Abstract:
Red cell acid phosphatase (ACP) types and blood groups have been studied in a Mixteca population, an Amerindian group, of Mexico City. The group has been in the city since 1950, having come from three locales. Frequencies in all cases were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. ABO frequency differences were significant when subjects from the three areas were simultaneously compared. Rh frequencies differed between the high-area and low-area populations only. ACP frequencies were significantly different between the high-area Mixteca group and a Mestizo population, all from Oaxaca.

Two decade trends in birth weight and early childhood growth in Papua New Guinea
Article Abstract:
Wage income was found to be a significant factor in the improvement of birth weights and growth rates for rural societies in Papua New Guinea. Birth weight increases averaging 150 g were observed in families with income, as well as childhood growth rate increases averaging 2.6 cm taller and 93 g heavier. Rural societies exposed to health promotion campaigns but without income sources did not demonstrate improved birth weight and growth rates.
