Elements of the Drosophila bithorax complex that mediate repression by Polycomb group products

Article Abstract:

Germline conversion models with parts of bdd, iab-2 or iab-3 regulatory areas of the bithorax complex (BX-C), that are regulated by the polycomb (Pc) group genes in embryos which encode repressors that limit the expression of homeotic genes to specific regions on the anterior-posterior (A-P) axis, have been identified. Pc group products offer stable memory or imprinting of boundaries, first determined by gap and pair-rule regulators, and they do not directly define A-P boundaries of homeotic expression.
