Field evaluations of marine oil spill bioremediation
Article Abstract:
Bioremediation enhances biodegradation of petroleum on contaminated shorelines but has no effect on biodegradation in seas. Bioremediation strategies using fertilizers increase the rates of oil biodegradation in aerobic intertidal sediments such as sand and cobble. The ratio of oil loading to nitrogen concentration in the interstitial water is the main factor affecting this bioremediation method. Recommendations for selecting and monitoring bioremediation methods are given.

Carbohydrate binding modules: Biochemical properties and novel applications
Article Abstract:
Hydrolytic enzymes have a complex molecular architecture comprising discrete modules, which are joined by unstructured linker sequences, and this structure is comprised of a catalytic module and one or more carbohydrate binding modules (CBMs) that bind to the polysaccharide. CBMs, by bringing the biocatalyst into intimate and prolonged association with its substrate, allow and promote catalysis, which are grouped into 43 families based on their properties.

Four novel Teloaneuploids of Plantago lagopus L
Article Abstract:
Plantago lapus disomic and primary trisomic crossage yielded a progeny called teloaneuploids that bore an extra telocentric chromosome. The additional chromosome did not match morphological descriptions for the 12 standard chromosomes. In addition, the chromosome was considered an evolutionary product of pericentric inversion and misdivision of the centromere in chromosome 6.
