Galton and identification by fingerprints
Article Abstract:
Scientists are trying to introduce the use of DNA "fingerprints" for forensic identification, but it would take time to be accepted just as the use of fingerprints for personal identification took a long time to be implemented. The first use of fingerprints was reported in 1870. Although Francis Galton studied extensively and wrote books explaining the scientific basis of fingerprints, universal acceptance for the use of fingerprints came only in the early twentieth century.
