Human imperfection: unresolved responses

Article Abstract:

A historical analysis of eugenics show that it is primarily an instrument of the priveleged, bigots, racists, conservatives and the idealistically naive who hope to improve society by designating who are unfit to live and procreate. In England, the proponents of eugenics used the Darwinian model of evolution for an improved species. In France, the Lamarckian faith in environmental change outweighed Mendelian and Weismannian models of heredity. In the US, Spencer's social Darwinism or the elimination of the unfit predominated. Despite its appeal, eugenics failed in all its forms.
