Proton-dependent multidrug efflux systems
Article Abstract:
Computer-based sequence surveys of the proton motive force dependent multidrug efflux systems show them to belong to either the major facilitator protein superfamily, or the resistance/nodulation/cell division (RND) family, or else the small multidrug resistance family. The RND multidrug efflux systems show a wider substrate specificity than proteins of the other two families. The physical characteristics of the proteins provide the substrate specifities, and prokaryotes/eukaryotes develop multidrug resistance proteins to overcome the effect of the chemotherapeutic agents in clinical situations.

Improved cultivation systems for isolation of the Colorado potato beetle spiroplasma
Article Abstract:
The BBL Anaerobic GasPak Jar system is a very dependable and beneficial method for primary isolation and aerobic broth culture of the host-specific, gut-inhabiting Colorado potato beetle spiroplasma (CPBS). The method is useful as a solid medium in CPBS molecular transformation studies. It is simple and less expensive compared to insect cell coculture methods. Its ability to reduce the contaminating insect cell components and to facilitate early passage screening of isolates for extrachromosomal elements adds to its advantage.
