Research collaborations: Trial, trust, and truth
Article Abstract:
Multigroup collaborations and multiauthored papers publishing research results are an everyday feature in the promotion of discoveries and in the provision of definitive test of hypotheses. Adequate care is recommended when entering into such collaborations so that potential pitfalls can be avoided.

The boundaries of the silenced HMR domain in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Article Abstract:
A boundary element compacts DNA as well as delineating independent units of genetic activity. Research of Saccharomyces cerevisiae shows that the boundary element contains a tRNA gene and TY1 LTR. These elements are found on either side of HMR and prevent the spread of silencers and promoters.

Yeast as a model for human mtDNA replication
Article Abstract:
Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a good model to study the influence of nuclear gene products on mitochondria because it is not completely dependent on oxidative phosphorylation as a source of energy. It can still function with defective mitochondria.
