Smad6 inhibits BMP/Smad1 signaling by specifically competing with the Smad4 tumor suppressor
Article Abstract:
Smad6 is a natural inhibitor of the process of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) achieve transcription. BMP's signal by phosphorylating Smad1 and then associate with Smad4. This complex moves into the nucleus inducing transcription. Smad6 functions as a Smad4 decoy and blocks Smad1 and BMP signaling pathways.

Mutations of acidic residues in RAG1 define the active site of the V(D)j recombinase
Article Abstract:
Results show that mutants with substituted amino acids in RAG1 protein can bind recombinant signal sequences but can not catalyze V(D)j recombinase cleavage suggesting RAG1 contains the active site of the recombinase.
