MutL[alpha]: At the cutting edge of mismatch repair

Article Abstract:

MutL[alpha], a component of the human mismatch repair machinery, has endonuclease activity. MutL[alpha] corrects errors in newly synthesized DNA by introducing single-strand breaks near the mismatch thus generating new entry points for the exonucleas EXOI to degrade the strand containing the mismatch.

Machinations of a Maxwellian demon

Article Abstract:

The mechanisms by which RNA polymerase moves along DNA elongation is difficult to determine experimentally. It is showed that back and forth sliding of RNA polymerase on DNA may be coupled to bending of an alpha helix, which can alternately occlude and expose the NTP binding site.
