frizzled and frizzled 2 play a partially redundant role in wingless signaling and have similar requirements to wingless in neurogenesis
Article Abstract:
The requirements of Drosophila frizzled (fz) and frizzled2 (Dfz2) during neurogenesis were examined. This study involved the use of mutations in fz, deficiencies for Dfz2, Dfz2 and fz transgenes that describe only the extracellular domain linked to the membrane, and the analysis of embryos that do not have fz and Dfz2 activities. Findings revealed that both Fz and DFz2 function in Wingless signaling. Moreover, the loss of one of the two has an impact on the same subset of neuroblasts as those influenced by loss of wg. The penetrance is improved in embryos without both fz or Dfz2, although these defects are partially penetrant in embryos without either.

Photoperiodic responsiveness of equatorial and temperate-zone stonechats
Article Abstract:
Annual gonadal and molt cycles in male stonechats were studied to test the hypothesis that a high-amplitude photoperiodic cycle can act as a zeitgeber of circannual rhythms. The nature of the photoperiodic response system was also characterized. Photoperiodic synchronization resulted from seasonal changes in responsiveness to photoperiodic stimuli. The small photoperiodic changes occurring at the equator may be sufficient to synchronize circannual rhythms of the birds.

Mycobacteriophage D29 contains an integration system similar to that of the temperate mycobacteriophage L5
Article Abstract:
Research into mycobacterial infections shows that mycobacteriophage D29 contains a 2592 nucleotide sequence like mycobacteriophage L5. Sequencing of the mycobacteriophage DNA fragment was achieved through cloning in shuttle plasmid pRM64. One bacterial chromosome site appears to be where plasmids integrate for pRM64 transformation. The data indicates that D29 may not be a virulent phage.
