The NLRB is expected to make important decisions in 1998 that will affect the unionization of small business. One case concerns the role of independent contractors in union organization. Others cases concern the rights of temporary employees to join unions.

The US Chamber of Congress joined with other trade organizations to found The Coalition and rebut the claims made by the AFL-CIO in the 1996 election campaign. The Coalition achieved its goal of retaining Republican control of the House of Representatives.
