A bucolic chorus: opera festivals

The Glimmerglass Opera company of Cooperstown, NY, began in 1975 and has been compared with the renowned Glyndebourne opera company of the UK. The festival is known for well-produced operas that are sometimes infused with artistic risks. Productions from the summer 1996 season are described.
