AUSTRIA: SCHEDULE FOR UNDERGROUND PROJECT

Article Abstract:

According to Vienna's town planning and finance councillors, the basic planning of the extending of the U2 underground railway line in the Austrian capital will be concluded by the beginning of 2000. The municipal transport company, Wiener Linien, is expected to complete the detailed planning of the project (e.g. the planning of the station entrances) by the end of 2002. The construction of the 12-km stretch from Schottenring to Aspernstrase is to start in 2004. The terminus at Aspernstrase is to be completed in 2008. The project involves investments of about Sch 16bn. This includes the extension of the platforms on the existing stations, which will also be equipped with lifts. Work on these adjustments is to start in March 2000.

PORTUGAL: FLS AND HOJGAARD BID FOR CIMPOR

Article Abstract:

Danish FLS Industries and Hojgaard Holding wish to acquire the Portuguese concrete producer Cimpor. FLS and Hojgaard jointly own the Portuguese company FLSHH, which owns 44.6% of Secil, a competitor to Cimpor on the Portuguese market. The purpose of acquring Cimpor is to strengthen the company on a market which is characterized by globalization and concentration.

DENMARK: HOJGAARD & SCHULTZ TO BUILT STATION

The Danish construction company Hojgaard & Schultz (H&S) has been awarded a contract valued at DKr 154mn (USD 22mn), including the construction of an underground station at Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. The station is part of the metro project in Copenhagen.
