Mobile advertising has been growing and moving towards becoming mainstream, especially for advertisers looking to reach busy urbanittes. The medium has met resistance due to the difficulty of measuring actual impressions. It has also run into some legal roadblocks since Toronto, Ontario, bylaws allow only buses to display billboards. despite the resistance, the medium is gaining popularity since it is the fastest growing of any other than the Internet. Toal ad spending on out-of-home reached $270 million in 1999.

Statistics provided by the World Tourism Organization in its 'Top Tourism Destinations for 1998' report shows that Canada is the eighth leading tourist destination in the world. Tourism spending, according to the Canadian Tourism Commission, has increased from $44 billion in 1997 to $47 billion in 1998 and is expected to continue growing in 1999. The total number of business travellers from the US has grown from 2.09 million in 1997 to 2.36 million in 1998.
