DENMARK: ANNUAL REPORT BY THE NATIONAL RAILWAY AGENCY

Article Abstract:

The National Railway Agency's (Banestyrelsen) annual report shows that the maintenance of the state-owned Danish railway infrastructure cost the Danish state DKr2.5bn (US$304mn) in 2000. The Counseling Division generated a DKr25mn profit and the Service Division generated a DKr86mn profit. The Counseling Division was sold to a listed British company. The so-called infrastructure fees Banestyrelsen charges railway operators that use railway tracks showed a DKr737mn profit. Banestyrelsen, in turn, paid a DKr740mn lease for the Great Belt rail link, the Kastrup link from Copenhagen to Kastrup and the Oresund link from Kastrup to Oresund Graense. There was a one per cent growth in traffic on Banestyrelsen's rail network in 2000.

DENMARK: DSB EXPECTED TO BOOST PROFITS IN 2001

Article Abstract:

DSB, the Danish State railway company, has boosted its profit by DKr100mn (US$12mn) to DKr400mn in the first quarter of 2001. The share of DSB's subsidiary DSB S-tog a/s of this is DKr30mn. Knud Heinesen, DSB's chairman of the board, ascribes the profit growth to improved earnings from passenger traffic that reported a DKr90mn growth in the first quarter of this year. Heinesen says DSB's whole year profit for 2001 is estimated to outstrip last year's profit by an ample margin. Last year's profit stood at DKr777mn.
