Denmark: Investment puts pressure on share holders
Article Abstract:
The upcoming investment in a Danish UMTS network puts pressure on the shareholders and could reduce the minor shareholders' percentage of the telecom company Orange. The total investment is estimated at DKr3bn(US$0.35bn) and the shareholders will have to come up with substantial amounts of money to keep their shares of the company . One example is the Danish Rail Administration that would have to contribute with about DKr400mn to maintain the share of 14% in the company. According to Erik Elsborg of the Rail Administration they will not contribute any more capital. There is also a possibility that the UMTS activities will be separated from the other businesses in a new company according to the paper.

DENMARK: TELECOM AGREEMENT IN PARLIAMENT
Article Abstract:
A majority of Folketinget, the Danish Parliament, have agreed about a tender invitation for new radio frequencies. This will increase competition on the Danish telecom market, as telecom operators will be able to offer services without leasing capacity from Tele Danmark or investing in new cables. The tender procedure will include eight nation-wide FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) frequencies. In March 2001, two new GSM 900 licenses will be awarded, and in October 2001, four UMTS licenses. Through the UTMS networks, capacity and speed of multimedia and Internet connections will be improved.

DENMARK: AGREEMENT ABOUT MOBILE TELEPHONY
Article Abstract:
Folketinget, the Danish parliament, is close to sign an agreement about further deregulation of the mobile telephony market in Denmark. The agreement includes several new licenses to be awarded in the next few years: four nation-wide licenses for the third generation of mobile telephony, two GSM 900 licenses and several new frequencies for emergency purposes. In addition, a wireless access network, a so-called FWA network, will be established. This means there will be an alternative to Tele Danmark's network for future new operators.
